Herakles
Herakles:
An Ancient Greek Red Figure-style ceramic plaque 'fragment' showing big bi demigod hero Herakles (Hercules) striding along with his trademark gnarled club and Nemean lion skin (and not much else). The words are written in Polari - a C19/20th British gay sociolect - Dolly Eek (pretty face) Bona Dish (great put) Sharda (there's) Nada in the Larda (Shame there's not much to see downstairs! - a common observation with Ancient Greek pottery and sculpture).Black glaze on red terracotta clay. Comes with a small metal D-ring on the back for hanging.
Note: the piece cracked in two during glaze firing but is now secured back in place using high strength ceramic glue and fibreglass. The crack, visible across his thighs, adds to the charm and authenticity of the plaque.
Approximate dimensions: 27cm wide x 28cm highx 1cm deep
Disclaimer: Each piece is handmade and hand-painted using natural materials, and is therefore unique. Surface imperfections and variations in shape, colour, flatness, thickness, etc are all part of each piece's charm
